The Gift of Salvation

Acts 4:12

“No one else can save us. Indeed, we can be saved only by the power of the one named Jesus and not by any other person.”

The dictionary defines salvation as, “preservation or deliverance from harm, ruin, or loss”. But the Bible defines it as so much more. It is a free gift we receive when we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. He died on the cross and paid the penalty for our sins, thereby blotting them out and giving us a clean heart. When we repent and turn back to the Lord, we know we are forgiven and delivered from the bondage of sin.

Too often, we turn to other people and things to save and deliver us. But it’s only the Lord Jesus Christ who can save us from sin and its consequences. Make no mistake – the wages of sin is death… but the gift of God through Jesus Christ is eternal life (Romans 6:23).

Many times, we try to change our bad habits, negative attitudes, and destructive behavior on our own. But no amount of determination or willpower will effect a change unless we turn to the Lord in true repentance. When we experience the full portion of His grace, we can rest in the knowledge that we are saved, healed, and delivered – free to live the abundant life that God has promised us (John 10:10).
