The God of Abundance

Romans 15:13 – “Now may the God of hope fill you up with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Everything God gives us He gives completely and fully, He is not a God that measures in small portions either.  Rather, He is a God who completely gave Himself up on the cross, so that you and I may live.  He said “I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.” (John 10:10b, ASV).

He gave up His life so that we may live, and He left for us the Holy Spirit, to fill us up with life, love, peace and hope. Not to a measure you and I understand, but with an abundant measure, as it is written, “a good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over.” ( Luke 6:38, NIV).

For anything to run over, to overflow, it needs to be more than it can hold.  And God wants to fill us up with all joy and peace because we trust in Him.  And when we do that we will overflow with confident hope, because we are connected to the most powerful source of hope in the universe.  And His hope is endless and immeasurable.

We ought to overflow with hope. We must be overflowing vessels of hope. We must be “spilling” this hope, this joy, and this peace that only God the Creator can give everywhere we go: in our homes, in our schools, in our jobs, because we know that the more we give, more will be given to us. Amen!
