True Freedom

Psalm 103:3 – “Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases.”

Today, we celebrate India’s 72nd Independence Day. Our freedom fighters sacrificed a lot to get us independence from the British regime, and we received a lot of benefits in the bargain. We have the right to vote, a constitution in place to safeguard the integrity of our country, and a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

2000+ years ago, the Son of God gave Himself up as a sacrifice to purchase another kind of freedom for us – one with benefits that are not limited to this world. Today’s key verse gives us a glimpse of what the blood of Jesus purchased for us on the cross – forgiveness and healing. While Jesus was on this earth, He often proclaimed forgiveness over those He healed. As children of God, we are not only forgiven by the grace of God, we are healed as well.

God’s healing might look different for each person. Some are healed instantly, while others are healed with medication. Quite a few people receive their healing only in Heaven, but that does not discount God’s ability to heal. Physical healing is important to us now while we are on this earth, but it is our spiritual healing that matters for eternity. Whether it is your body that need to be restored or your soul, know that it is the Lord Jesus alone who offers both you both healing and forgiveness – true freedom indeed!
