All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. – John 6:37 (NIV)

Let’s break this verse into bite-size chunks.

What does it mean to ‘come to’ Jesus? – ‘Come to’ Jesus is a figurative way of us responding to the offer of salvation. ‘To come’ means that we understand and acknowledge Jesus Christ as the only way to heaven. The Bible reveals Jesus Christ as the revelation of God, who is the only way to eternal life.  Our desire to know Christ will drive us to spend time with Him.

Jesus Christ said ‘I will never drive them away: The word ‘ drive’ is ekballo,  comes from two Greek words, ek (out) and ballo (cast or throw). It means to throw something out purposefully. Jesus assures us that He will not drive us out. We have given Jesus Christ plenty of reasons to cast us out. We have disobeyed the Lord, sinned against God and others and failed to do right. Yet, here He promises that He will not throw away all those who ‘come to’ Him.

Is it possible for all to ‘come to Christ and be saved? – Yes! a true repented heart will be secure through eternity. That’s our Lord’s promise to us.

Dear Heavenly Father,  Thank you for the gift of salvation. Thank you for the Holy Spirit who convicts us of our wrongdoings. Thank you for forgiveness and your promise to those who ‘come to’ you; you will not drive them away. In Jesus Name – Amen.
