Psalm 119:9
How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.
Wisdom is understanding that we are not perfect and that we need God’s help to refine us. The moment we feel superior to someone else and place ourselves on higher moral ground, we start down the road of pride and conceit. Instead, we must remain humble at every age and stage of our lives.
It is fascinating to realize that we can learn profound life lessons even from the people and situations we feel most hopeless about. A teachable heart never loses its ability to learn. The Word of God establishes the truth that we can only become better than our previous selves by cleansing our ways. And how do we cleanse our ways? By obeying the Word of God.
Obeying the Word of God is often uncomfortable. It asks us to forgive when we feel we are the ones owed an apology, and it commands us to submit when we feel the urge to be in control. The Holy Spirit faithfully brings the Word of God to our hearts and lovingly convicts us. Responding to His gentle leading in obedience is how the Bible describes the continual work of cleansing and sanctification in our lives.
Let today be the day you choose to decrease so that God may increase in your life. Let His will shine through you, and let Him establish His plans for you. To experience this, you must heed and obey His Word, even when it is uncomfortable and completely against your human will. Choose God and His will today, and walk in the fullness of His Kingdom as you faithfully follow Him.
