Mercy and Grace

Psalm 103:8 NKJV

“The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.”

Psalm 103 is a well-recognized psalm of King David that begins with the words, “Bless the LORD, O my soul.” David goes on to recount all the wonderful blessings one receives from God. When he talks about God being merciful and gracious, it’s because he’s experienced it himself.

God’s mercy does not treat us as our sins deserve. David was guilty of adultery and murder, yet He received the Lord’s mercy when he repented. God’s grace gives us much more than what we truly deserve. Despite David’s shortcomings, God showered His grace on him and blessed him abundantly. David’s wealth and conquests were unparalleled at that time.

The world thinks of God as a distant supreme being who’s ready to lash out in anger. But the Bible reminds us that our Lord is slow to anger and abounding in mercy. Yes, we all have sinned and fallen short, but our Lord Jesus Christ took the punishment for our sin on Himself. Therefore, we’re forgiven and set free.

If you’ve been tortured with memories of past sins, turn to the Lord in repentance. Confess your sins and receive His forgiveness. Rest in the Lord’s great mercy and allow His grace to wash over you. He will give you everything you need to live a life of victory that will bring glory to His Name.
