Psalm 99:5
Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at His footstool—He is holy.
This psalm encourages us to acknowledge God’s supreme authority and His holiness. It invites us to lift God high in our hearts, speech, and conduct, recognising His supreme authority and goodness in our lives.
The footstool bridges the gap between God’s transcendence and His accessibility. To worship at His footstool is to take a position of humility. It is a posture of acknowledging His absolute sovereignty and approaching the Mercy Seat where our sins are forgiven. It’s a reminder that we must approach God with sincerity and reverence, not casually. Worshipping at His footstool is not just a Sunday ritual but a daily rhythm to recognise His presence in our lives. It means putting God first in every decision.
God’s holiness is the core reason for worship. The Bible commands us to be holy because God is holy. All the attributes of God are shaped by His holiness, i.e., His love is holy, His justice is holy. Acknowledging God’s holiness leads to repentance of sin. When we confess our sin instead of hiding it, He forgives us, gives us the grace to overcome obstacles, and leads us in the path of righteousness.
When we focus on God’s sovereignty, our problems seem small, and we can face life’s challenges and uncertainties without anxiety. Let us ask the Holy Spirit to help us acknowledge God in all our ways. Let’s submit our lives, our plans, and everything we are to Him, for He is faithful to lead us in the path of righteousness and holiness.
