Psalm 96:9

“Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth.

We live in a world obsessed with outward appearances. We spend so much time chasing the perfect look, the perfect house, the perfect partner, or the perfect image. But today’s verse points us toward a different kind of beauty, one that isn’t skin-deep but soul-deep: the beauty of holiness.

The word holiness brings to mind a long list of rules or someone who believes they’re better than everyone else. But that’s not what God’s holiness means. God’s holiness reflects His pure nature, perfect and distinct from the world’s brokenness and selfishness.

When Isaiah saw a vision of God seated on His throne, surrounded by angels declaring, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord!” he didn’t approach casually but trembled in awe and cried out, “Woe to me! I am ruined!” In that moment, he clearly saw his own imperfections. Yet God did not leave him in fear. An angel touched his lips and took away his guilt. Isaiah’s response perfectly reflects today’s verse. He trembled at God’s greatness, worshiped Him, and offered himself: “Here am I, Lord. Send me.”

Have we become so familiar with God that we have lost our sense of wonder? Today, instead of only asking Him for things, let’s take time to reflect on how good, just, and loving He is. Let’s honor God’s holiness – not through outward perfection, but through inward transformation that reflects His character in our everyday actions. Let’s choose honesty over an easy shortcut and practice patience when we feel like reacting in frustration.

Prayer: Lord, sometimes I forget how great You truly are. Like Isaiah, help me to catch a glimpse of Your holiness so I may worship You with genuine reverence. Thank You for being both all-powerful and incredibly merciful. Amen.
